Rolled stockings and roll garters were a big part of flapper fashion. In the 1920’s, stockings were made from silk so they didn’t stretch or hold a shape. Women had to rely on corsets with garters or garter belts to hold up their stockings.Wearing corsets was seen as old fashioned and outdated as there was simply no need for such constriction with all the new relaxed fashions.  Garter rolls were a legit way to hold stockings, but for the rebellious flapper, it also gave the chance for a little leg to be shown. . Some even went as far as rouging their knees!
